Many years ago, I was a terrified young writer, wanting desperately to write, but not knowing how. I was encouraged to attend the Mount Hermon Writers Conference, known for its excellent teaching, faculty, and results. I went, trembling, knowing I would feel out of place. (Certainly all these people were real writers and I was just a wannabe.) I stepped onto the beautiful grounds and into the groups of eager writers.
It was there I met my best writing instructor who became a close friend. Until his death in 2017, he prayed for me every day, regularly hit me upside the head with a 2 x 4, encouraged me to take the talents God had given me and fly. Although I let him down so many times, he never stopped believing in me.
Through his encouragement and challenge to make a commitment, I wrote my first book, Just Like Ice Cream, returning to Mount Hermon the next year as a published author. It wasn't long until I began to teach beginners there. Many years have passed and I still owe my start in writing and editing to Mount Hermon where I met publishers, agents, editors, and other writers. This networking has led to every project I have ever worked on.
So I want to encourage you to sign up and COME to the conference. This year I will be teaching a major, six-hour track on editing along with another fine editor, Mick Silva. He will concentrate on the substantive or macro editing and I will teach on line editing. Together we bring many years of experience to the classroom. I hope you will come and begin your journey as a writer or an editor.
